JetBlue starting free Wifi in-air Beta

JetBlue announced last week that it would start offering free Wifi Internet access on selected routes as early as this week. This is welcome news to all email addicts, including me. As part of the Beta, the airline equipped one of its Airbus 320 airplanes so that passengers will be able to connect to the plane’s wireless access points just as they would on the ground.

“The New York-based airline will offer free limited service Tuesday on Flight 641 from JFK International Airport to San Francisco International. The return flight, Flight 644, leaves San Francisco at 12:25 p.m. A spokesman for JetBlue said it had not determined on which route the plane, a 150-passenger Airbus A320, will fly after Tuesday.”

Get ready for iPhone

Today is the day that many gadget junkies have been waiting for - Apple’s iPhone is finally going on sale at AT&T wireless stores around the country. Much has been written and reported about its cool features and it will be interesting to see if the fever pitch media hype leading-up to its release can live up to the expectations and real world demands of the common cell phone user.

For many companies currently supporting corporate mobile email through services such as RIM’s Blackberry BES, Microsoft Mobile ActiveSync or Good Technology from Motorola a far different question arises: How will they support the iPhone on their existing infrastructure and what possible security risks does the device pose in the corporate context?
